What is a Neuro Physiotherapist?

A Neuro Physio is a therapist who specialises in the assessment and treatment of people who have suffered an insult or disease that affects the central nervous system.

What type of conditions can we help with?

- Stroke (CVA)
- Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA)
- Sub-Arachnoid Haemorrhage
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Traumatic Brain Injury / Head Injury
- Spinal Injury
- Peripheral Neuropathy
- Neurological Weakness
- Cerebellar Degeneration
- Guillian-Barre Syndrome

Neurological conditions can cause a wide range of symptoms such as the loss of normal movement, coordination and balance. There can be an associated loss of function caused by muscle stiffness, spasm and weakness.
Pain is also a common complaint and can have a profound effect on function. It can be caused by neurologically induced hypersensitivity, muscle spasm and joint mal-alignment.

It is the role of the neuro physio to carry out an in depth assessment based on the Bobath Concept of normal movement and to treat the person accordingly, utilising specialist skills and knowledge to restore normal movement, regain function and reduce pain.

We can see you in our clinic or in the comfort of your own home.
